A nasty bug crept into some PlayStation games that gave the games an expiration date. Sony is still silent on the subject.
PlayStation gamers have found a nasty surprise in the past few days. As “Kotaku” reports, some games simply expire via an expiry date. These are PlayStation 3 and PS Vita games that were purchased digitally. Classic games such as Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VI or Super Street Fighter IV are particularly affected.
The affected players took a look at the games’ data and found an expiry date for the download license there. This was set for December 31, 1969. Apparently the date was recently changed by a bug. Because before that, gamers could start and play their games without any problems.

PlayStation expiration date: Sony has not commented yet
In forums, gamers speculate about what could have led to the error. Some of them point out that the date is just before the beginning of the Unix era. This was then developed for the Unix system. It is therefore conceivable that there was an internal error at Sony and that the times of digital PlayStation downloads were changed as a result.
So far, Sony has not commented on the error. Particularly annoying for gamers: Apparently there is still no workaround for the problem. Resetting the console or logging out and back into PlayStation Plus does not resolve the issue. As soon as Sony comments or there is a workaround, we will update the article accordingly.
