PlayStation isn’t giving up on single-player games

Each console manufacturer has its own exclusives and sony is known for delivering impactful single-player experiences on playstation For years : Uncharted, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, god of warthe list is long, and players are asking for more.

But the Japanese manufacturer is eyeing more and more games live-servicenotably by acquiring Bungie (Destiny 2) and most recently Haven Studios. So, Does this mark the end of single-player games? Of course notas stated by Herman Hulst, Director of PlayStation Studiosin an interview with GamesIndustry.biz :

Of course, we will always continue to make those single-player narrative games like Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us, and Horizon Forbidden West.

But you have noticed that we have invested in live service games, because it is incredibly exciting for us. It allows us to build bigger worlds, it allows us to create really meaningful social connections between players.

Herman Hulst even goes so far as to say that several solo games are already in development at PlayStation Studioswithout quoting them (but some have already been announced), something to reassure fans, even if the titles live-service will become more and more important on PlayStation 5 in the future, with at least 10 games of the genre to be released over the next four years.
