PlayStation Plus: Sony is preparing a 60 hertz option for PS1 games

The announcement, which comes in the wake of the launch of the PlayStation Plus Premium in Europe, is obviously welcome even if we would have even more appreciated if the manufacturer took the lead as Nintendo had done by offering from the start the possibility of choosing the NTSC/60 hertz format on Nintendo 64 games from the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Remember that a game in PAL/50 hertz format generally runs 20% slower than its NTSC counterpart and that it cannot exceed 50 frames per second.

PlayStation’s tweet does not specify when this option will be available exactly, but everyone can in the meantime check out the large list of games offered in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium formulas. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Bloodborne, Control, Days Gone, Demon’s Souls, Death Stranding, Detroit: Become Human, Final Fantasy XV, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, Gravity Rush 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales , Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Mortal Kombat 11, Nioh, Outer Wilds, Red Dead Redemption 2, Resident Evil 7, Returnal, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Until Dawn, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana or Ys IX: Monstrum Nox are some of the names that stand out on PS5/PS4, not to mention the hundreds of cloud-playable PS3 games and remastered PS2 games.

Made to grow richer over the months, the catalog of PS1 games is still quite wise for the moment with titles like Ape Escape, Everybody’s Golf, Jumping Flash, Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Siphon Filter, Tekken 2 or Wild Arms. Finally, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will also find a dozen trial versions of recent games, including Horizon Forbidden West, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Cyberpunk 2077, OlliOlli World, Biomutant and Crusader Kings III.
