Last August, Sony announced some very bad news for subscribers PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra And Premium : the price has increased, and not just a little. Obviously, many players have expressed their dissatisfaction, especially since the titles offered sometimes have difficulty attracting people, and the exclusives day one are missing, unlike the Xbox Game Pass of Microsoft.
Eric Lempel, senior vice president of PlayStationspoke with Barron’s on many subjects, and in particular on that of the increase in the price of PlayStation Plus. He tried to justify this choicebut it’s still difficult to get through:
We want to make PlayStation Plus great. With our reboot last year and the introduction of the tier system, many consumers recognized that the PlayStation 5 has a lot of value.
Like almost everything else in the world, we must examine our prices and adapt to market conditions. I’m happy to say that, unlike many other subscription services, we haven’t touched the price of PlayStation Plus for 85% of the world for many years. So that was the first time we did anything.
After having affirmed without flinching that this increase in the price of PS+ will allow us to “continue to offer high quality games and value-added benefits” to the service of Sony, Eric Lempel clashed over the subject of games day one :
It depends on what you will get in the service in terms of game type and game quality. I can’t comment on what the competition is doing. But with us, we believe we will offer a great catalog of games, as well as other features and services with PlayStation Plus.
Plus, we offer you the flexibility to commit as much or as little as you want, depending on what you want to do.
Justifications that are hard to pass at the moment. However, it must be recognized that Sony recently launched features of cloud gaming on PS5but only for subscribers PlayStation Plus Premium. The service is evolving, but there is still a way to go to justify the price against the competition.
