PlayStation Studios: a job offer specifies Sony’s mobile ambitions

For several years now, Sony Interactive Entertainment turned to new media in search of a new audience. This resulted in ports and releases of games with certain partners on PC, for example Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut for the most recent. The mobile sector also interests the Japanese giant, as mentioned last year and it seems that we know a little more about what awaits us in this area. Indeed, a job offer unearthed by TweakTown and who can be freely consulted here reports a search for a software engineer to design a platform PlayStation for mobiles dedicated to free-to-playfrom their development to their exploitation on the market. The site rightly points out that Sony only has Fate/Grand Order in this category (via its subsidiary Aniplex).

Here’s what this job ad says specifically, putting aside the introduction touting the merits of PlayStation :

PlayStation Studios Mobile is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to design a PlayStation platform to develop, publish and operate free-to-play mobile games. Responsibilities

  • Design the system architecture and backend services for the mobile gaming platform.
  • Measure and improve the security, availability, throughput and profitability of the platform.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the platform engineering team.
  • Establish pipelines and processes to facilitate the delivery of high-quality software.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate the platform with internal services.
  • Influence and contribute to the platform engineering roadmap.
  • Clearly communicate end-to-end system behavior to platform users and managers.
  • Actively monitor technical innovations, changes and trends affecting mobile game development.

Desired skills and experience

  • More than 8 years of professional experience in the mobile games industry.
  • Experience as a technical leader in a company.
  • Skilled communicator to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Expertise in software architecture, service design and distributed systems.
  • Expertise in operating backend services at scale.
  • Experience designing related APIs or SDKs.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, containers and Kubernetes/EKS.
  • Working knowledge of Unity or Unreal Engine.
  • Working knowledge of emerging technologies affecting mobile game development.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent.

It is therefore probably not for tomorrow that we will see the mobile market flooded with games stamped PlayStation, but things are changing little by little. In any case, it is a safe bet that the PSN will be used in the future on our portable devices despite the recent setback on the PC side with Helldiverse 2.

In the meantime, “The Best Place to Play” at the games PlayStation remains the PS5, which is sold for €549.99 on Amazon and €549.00 at the house of Cdiscount with disc player.
