PlayStation VR2: Finally a release date?

Last January, Sony’s official blog announced the arrival of its brand new virtual reality headset, the PlayStation VR2. Aiming to offer an improved and ever more immersive experience to gamers, the PSVR2 is a real gem of technology, with its OLED screen and 100-degree field of vision in 4K HDR.

In terms of design, it is inspired by that of Sony’s latest console, the PS5, for which the virtual reality headset will be exclusive. Players around the world are therefore looking forward to it and can’t wait to immerse themselves in the immersive universe that PlayStation VR2 will offer, and in particular in the first VR experience that will be released with the project: Call of the Mountain, a spin-off of Horizon: Forbidden West. But then…

When will PlayStation VR2 be released?

Until then, no specific release date has been advanced by Sony teams, no price either. Apart from the design of the virtual reality headset and its performance, unveiled recently, players didn’t really know what to expect… until a video revealed a little more.

On YouTube was posted by “PSVR Without Speech” a video suggesting that the release date of the PlayStation VR2 would be scheduled for the first quarter of 2023. According to them, they would have a reasonable number of sources having confirmed this release window.

Until then, Sony’s teams had hinted at an end-of-year release, which would have been perfect for the holiday season. The impatient will therefore surely have to wait because the comments made in the YouTube video in question have been supported by Ross YoungCEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, which helps companies source electronic and/or technology components.

A shortage of components

Ross Young is therefore supposedly linked to the production of the PlayStation VR2. In an article that he quotes in one of his tweets is mentioned a shortage of AMOLED panelshaving a pixel density never seen before for this type of components.

A shortage which would have slightly delayed the production of the PlayStation VR2 and would therefore confirm a release in early 2023. However, this information has not yet been confirmed by Sony, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. Although Ross Young is indeed linked to many companies in the digital and new technologies industry, nothing is official until the Japanese company has supported the CEO’s claims.

You have understood it, it will therefore be necessary to wait a little longer before having an official announcement from Sony which will reveal to us, with a bit of luck, a precise date for the release of the highly anticipated virtual reality headset and maybe even a price!

For several years now, we have been able to buy our video games in a so-called digital (or digital) format, directly via the respective stores of our consoles. Nevertheless, some problems may appear, and this is the case lately with PlayStation….
