A major project is in preparation at PlayStation. Indeed, the Japanese firm is preparing to release the first MMO in its history. And it will be a license already well known to players.

For this, the manufacturer has chosen to join forces with a leader of the genre who will be able to bring all his expertise in the field of ” massively multiplayer game “.

Sony takes a hell of a turn

If the PlayStation brand is mainly adored for its narrative single-player games like Uncharted Where god of war, a change of strategy is on the horizon. Thus, the publisher intends to develop more ” video games as a service ” in the near future. This desire explains takeovers such as that of Bungie or Haven Studios. Additionally, Naughty Dog is currently working on a multiplayer title based on the license. The Last of Us.

But the Californian studio is not the only one to work on a multi-player experience. Indeed, if we are to believe the latest rumors relayed by MTN and Video Games Chronicleanother gamer-loved franchise is about to make the switch to multiplayer.

Already epic fights in perspective?

It’s the saga Horizon which should soon be available in MMORPG. The NCSoft studio, known for Lineage and Guild Wars, would take care of the development. The game would be codenamed Project H, and several job offers have recently been put online. Of course, Sony and NCSoft did not wish to respond to these rumors.

After the success ofHorizon Zero Dawn in 2017, thenHorizon Forbidden West this year, we can understand PlayStation’s desire to definitively propel the saga to the forefront. It remains to be seen if the Guerrilla Games studio is involved in the MMO, or if it is a project only developed by a third party team.
