Please don't !: You make these typical mistakes when cooking pasta

Anyone can cook pasta. Think! Because cooking pasta is more than just throwing a few spaghetti into a saucepan with water and waiting ten minutes. Most people actually make a few of these mistakes that end up sitting in front of a plate of mushy noodles that don't taste good. Do some of these classic mistakes happen to you? Don't panic, we'll tell you how to avoid them so that nothing stands in the way of pasta happiness.

Common mistakes when cooking pasta – and how to avoid them:

1. Let the pasta cook for too long

The classic mistake: let the pasta cook for too long. When we take the noodles off the stove, they should be al dente. Because after they are poured off, they cook a little more. Tip: While the noodles are cooking, prepare the punch. If you still have to search when the noodles are ready, you risk pasta.

2. The pot is too small

If you like to eat pasta, you should have a large pot. Because pasta needs space because it should be completely covered with water when cooking.

3. Too little water

Noodles need a large pot because they also need enough water. Rule of thumb: One liter of water per 100 grams of pasta.

4. No salt

Salt should be used sparingly. But we shouldn't miss out on pasta cooking. Because that belongs in the pasta water. A teaspoon per liter of water is a good measurement.

5. Oil in the water

Just don't pour oil into the water! Because that settles on the surface of the noodles – and in the end they can no longer absorb the sauce properly.

6. Put the pasta into the water too early

Bring the water to a boil first. If it bubbles, the noodles are allowed in. If you throw the pasta into the water beforehand, pasta is inevitable.

7. Just let the pasta cook

Noodles are fairly straightforward, but they need some attention when cooking. If you stir the pasta – especially spaghetti – every now and then, it prevents them from sticking together.

8. Take the wrong pasta

Popular mistake: sauce and noodles don't match. It is not difficult to choose the right noodles: wide noodles go well with strong sauces with pieces. For light and liquid sauces, we tend to use narrow pasta.

9. Quench the pasta with water

We don't know who has spread quenching pasta with water is a good idea. Because whoever scares pasta, rinses the starch off the pasta. And in the end the sauce can no longer stick to the pasta. We also love the pasta warm and not quenched-cold.

10. Add the butter and oil to the pasta

If you want to prevent the pasta from sticking together, add some cooking water to the bowl. Butter and oil have no business there because the oil prevents the pasta from absorbing the sauce (see tip 4).

11. Sauce and pasta go together

Another tip against sticky pasta: mix the pasta and sauce before serving. Another advantage: the noodles stay nice and warm.
