Caution ! 16,000 boxes of medication to combat stress have been recalled. Another medicine slipped into a tube. An investigation is open.
This Wednesday, February 21, the laboratory Bayer alerted pharmacists regarding an anomaly on medications Euphytosis. Result, 16,000 boxes of this medication have been recalled. While product recalls are quite common on food products or products intended for children, it is much rarer in the pharmaceutical industry.
Indeed, numerous checks are carried out during the drug manufacturing chain. The Bayer laboratory therefore has difficulty explaining this incident. It would be of an isolated case, since only one person reported the anomaly. When opening their box of Euphytose, a person discovered a blue tablet, which is actually “Phenergan 25mg”, a sleeping pill dispensed only on prescription.

A blue tablet among the brown tablets
The error is easily identifiable since the Euphytose tablets are brown and the intruder was blue. As a reminder, Euphytose is an over-the-counter herbal medicine (hawthorn, bale, passionflower and valerian) which helps relieve stress and promotes sleep. The batch affected by the manufacturing error is the Lot SX2298 expiry on 03/2025.
“Pharmacists are asked to take all measures within their pharmacy to inform patients of this recall”, indicate the Bayer laboratory and the Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) in a note sent to French pharmacists, according to BFMTV. Even if this appears to be an isolated case, the laboratory did not want to take any risks.

The recall of 16,000 boxes of Euphytose was therefore requested, particularly given the popularity of the drug. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the incident. “The precise origin of this event is currently under investigation,” explains the Bayer laboratory to BFMTV.
For information, the drugs Euphytose and Phenergan are manufactured in the same factory. So be careful if you bought a box of Euphytose recently. A vast communications campaign is planned to alert consumers of this recall. The ANSM recommends don’t panic and will soon provide more details on the steps to follow.
