For the 13th consecutive month, sales of new cars in France are down. In June 2022, they recorded a drop of 14.2% compared to June 2021, with 171,089 units sold. Remember that in June 2019, the reference year before Covid, 230,964 new cars had been registered.

According to NGC-Data analysts, the delivery delays noted for two years and the health crisis have been compounded by aggravating factors such as “the rise in raw materials, soaring fuel prices, difficulties in the production and supply of semiconductors and economic uncertainties of all kinds (war in Ukraine, inflation at +5.8% (INSEE) in June“.

In addition, some of the future French customers are waiting to know their room for maneuver when it comes to buying a vehicle. This is conditioned by the evolution of fuel prices, but also by the traffic restrictions (ZFE) implemented in large cities with more than 150,000 inhabitants.

On the other hand, the market for plug-in hybrids, or plugin in English, continues to experience a cold snap, like last month. Thus, in June 2022, 11,963 registrations were recorded.

The Mercedes GLC relegates the star of the market, the Peugeot 3008, to 3rd place

This is the surprise of the moment. Accustomed to occupying the number one spot, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid gives up its crown for the month of June 2022. The first step of the podium is now occupied by the Mercedes GLC (744 copies), followed within a few units by the Citroën C5 Aircross (672 copies) and the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid (643 copies). It’s exactly the same trio as in May 2022, but in a different order.

4th place once again goes to the Peugeot 308 (576 units), closely followed by the Kia Sportage (5th; 543 units) and Renault Captur (6th; 541 units).

The Lynk&Co, last month’s surprise, is still in place, even if it goes from 6th to 8th place (454 registrations) with its 01. Remember that the company’s economic model is monthly rental without commitment. However, it is not forbidden to buy the vehicle with cash.

Peugeot and the Stellantis group can always be consoled to see four of their vehicles appear in the top 10 over the first six months of 2022. Thus, the first two places are monopolized by the Peugeot 3008 (6461 units) and 308 (3747 units), while in 4th and 5th place are the Citroën C5 Aircross (3231 units) and DS DS7 (2282 units).
