After an increase of 5.45% in October, November sees an increase of 9.81% compared to the same month in 2021 and for the same number of working days (20). This translates to 133,961 new passenger cars registered, compared to 121,994 a year ago. However, it is 22.5% less compared to 2019, the reference year. This new increase should not make us forget that since the beginning of the year, the automotive market has not caught up (-8.7%). Thus, between January and November 2022, 1,371,008 registrations were recorded.

The objective of registering 1.6 million new vehicles in 2022 will probably not be achieved, which should cause some problems at the dealer level at the start of 2023. The fault, according to Julien Billon, general manager of AAA Data, supplier of the automotive market data, at a “orders indicator which plunges again in October and accentuates the negative trend observed since the beginning of the year”. This was already the case in the first half of 2022 with a slowdown in orders.

The plug-in hybrid lagging behind

If the electrified car (hybrid and electric) is nibbling market share, especially with “self-rechargeable” hybrid vehicles (29,499 units) and electric vehicles (20,274 registrations), the rechargeable hybrid (PHEV) is lagging behind with only 12,340 registrations (+1.5% for a market share of 9.2%). The disappearance of the ecological bonus from January 2023 could be one of the reasons for this lack of love.

Unsurprisingly, petrol remains the preferred fuel of the French with 46,503 registrations (+8.0% for a market share of 36.0%).

Peugeot and Citroën remain unbeatable

The Stellantis group is in the firmament in the plug-in hybrid vehicle segment. Indeed, the group occupies the first three places of the top 10, with the unbeatable Peugeot 3008 in number one (1052 VP; PDM of 9%). Despite this success, there is a 14% drop compared to November 2021 (1225 PV).

On the other hand, all is well for number two, which is identical to last month, namely the Citroën C5 Aircross (775 VP; PDM of 6%). 3rd place once again goes to the Peugeot 308 (686 VP; PDM of 6%). On the other hand, the Stellantis group only has three models left in this top 10. Indeed, the DS7 Crossback goes from 6th to 11th place (349 VP; PDM of 3%).

The outsider is the Hyundai-Kia group, whose Kia Sportage (652 VP; PDM of 5%) and Hyundai Tucson (490 VP; PDM of 4% PDM) occupy 4th and 5th place.

This ranking of the top 10 is quite eclectic since, in addition to Kia and Hyundai, the Mercedes GLA (6th; 462 VP; PDM of 4%) and GLE (7th; 434 VP; PDM of 4%), the Audi Q3 ( 8th; 412 VP; 3% PDM), the Mini Countryman (9th; 404 VP; 3% PDM) and the BMW 2 Series (10th; 363 VP; 3% PDM).
