Poco M4 Pro and X4 Pro 5G revealed: new mid-range in comparison

At the MWC 2022 in Barcelona, the Xiaomi brand Poco presented its new middle class. NextPit tells you what the Poco X4 Pro 5G and the Poco M4 Pro are all about and shows the two mid-range smartphones in comparison.

Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi is also represented at the Mobile World Congress. Xiaomi’s sub-brand Poco has two smartphones in its luggage that expand the Chinese middle class. The Poco X4 Pro 5G is the stronger of the two. The Poco M4 Pro in the LTE version is more of a complement to the Poco M4 Pro 5G, which Xiaomi had already unveiled last November.

We present the Poco X4 Pro 5G and the Poco M4 Pro in direct comparison – as always, we start with an overview of the technical data:

If you’re already keeping your eyes peeled for a new cell phone, both models will be available from March 2nd. Let’s take a quick look at what the two new models have in store:

Contents:

display and housing

Both smartphones come with an AMOLED dot display, with the X4 Pro 5G having the larger panel at 6.67 inches. Images are repeated at 120 hertz, the touch sampling rate is 360 hertz. The M4 Pro, on the other hand, measures 6.43 inches and is also a bit weaker in terms of refresh rate (90 Hertz) and touch sampling rate (180 Hertz).

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, although the X4 Pro 5G with Gorilla Glass 5 vs Gorilla Glass 3 also has the edge here. What is striking about the design is that both models have a slot for a microSD card, stereo speakers and space for a 3.5 mm jack on board. Both models are available in blue, yellow and black and have a fingerprint sensor on the side of the device.

performance and connectivity

The Snapdragon 695 in the X4 Pro 5G is the most powerful Qualcomm SoC of the 6 series and was only introduced last October. In the M4 Pro, on the other hand, a MediaTek SoC is used: the Helio G96, which clocks at up to 2.05 Hertz. You can get both cell phones in two configurations: One with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, alternatively with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In both devices, thanks to “Dynamic RAM Expansion Technology”, 3 GB can be tapped from the internal memory for the main memory.

As the addition “5G” suggests, Poco’s mid-range flagship uses the 5G network, while the M4 Pro only uses the LTE network. Of course, both have NFC and Bluetooth, although the M4 Pro only supports Bluetooth 5.0 (X4 Pro 5G Bluetooth 5.1).

cameras

Both smartphones come with a triple camera array, which, in addition to the main camera, contains an ultra wide-angle cam with 8 megapixels and a macro snap with 2 megapixels. The main camera of the X4 Pro 5G offers 108 megapixels and 9-in-1 pixel binning. The M4 Pro has 64 megapixels and 4-in-1 pixel binning.

Due to its size, the sensor of the X4 Pro 5G should capture significantly more light than previous models. But what these pithy announcements are worth must first be proven by a test. The camera setup in both models is rounded off by a selfie shooter with 16 megapixels in a punch-hole design.

software

So far, Poco hasn’t revealed much to us about the software, except that MIUI 13 is used. Assumes that Xiaomi’s interface will unfortunately be based on Android 11 again for the time being. Xiaomi has also not yet explicitly commented on the number of expected updates. If the company sticks to its previous update cycles, we can expect two Android updates for the X4 Pro 5G, while the M-Class model will probably only receive one Android update.

Battery and quick charging

Both devices are in step here, at least as far as the capacity of 5,000 mAh is concerned. However, the X-class cell phone can be charged with 67 watts, but the M4 Pro is also charged with 33 watts. The X4 Pro 5G should be 70 percent charged within 22 minutes, according to the manufacturer the cell phone is fully charged in 41 minutes.

price and availability

Both devices can be purchased from March 2, 2022. As already mentioned, you have the choice between three colors and two memory configurations. Here are the prices:

By the way, if you are quick, you can still get the early bird price and save 30 euros each time you buy: You can get the Poco X4 Pro 5G until March 7, 2022, 12:59 p.m. (while stocks last) for 269, 90 euros or 319.90. You can get the Poco M4 Pro until March 4, 2022, 12:59 p.m. (also while stocks last) for 199.90 euros or 249.90 euros.

I think the X4 Pro 5G is a very exciting alternative among the midrangers, especially if you get it at the early bird price. With the M4 Pro, please remember that you don’t have 5G – and the slightly differently equipped version with 5G is already available for less than 200 euros.
