Podcast: Ski Stammtisch – Successful medal hunt with perfect fitness

The greatest talent is useless if strength and condition are lacking. Therefore, the fitness of the athletes is extremely important. In the podcast, Olympic champion Katharina Truppe and ÖSV athletics trainer Peter Petscharnig tell how our ski stars prepare for the season and stay fit in winter.

Gold in the team competition at the Olympics in Beijing – the Carinthian ski ace Katharina Truppe achieved this great success this year. “For me, the Olympics are always a nice look back with a lot of positive thoughts,” remembers Katharina Truppe, who is the first lady to be a guest at the Stammtsich. “The tingling is still there. There are a lot of emotions that are difficult to put into words.” Hard training, even in summerBut she created the basis for this with discipline and hard training in the years before and especially in the summer. “You can only lay the foundation for good fitness and thus also for my medal in summer,” says the skier at the “Krone” ski regulars’ table. “That’s why we always have a maximum of three weeks break between the seasons until the training goes back to full activity.” This is also confirmed by her trainer Peter Petscharnig, who is responsible for athletic training at ÖSV: “Skiers are made in summer.” Tips for amateur skiers But not only the pros benefit a lot from preparing for the season. “For amateur skiers, I recommend doing everything that you enjoy as ideal preparation,” explains the ÖSV trainer. “Continuity is important.” And warming up protects directly before having fun on the slopes: “The plank is a good exercise. It doesn’t get you wet and it’s a great full body exercise.”
