Pogrom artwork – mobile prayer house in front of the State Theater damaged

The Jewish prayer house in Innsbruck was not set up until Tuesday. The mobile work of art is intended to commemorate the pogrom night in the Nazi era. It was damaged by strangers on Thursday night. The interior was demolished.

The mobile prayer house is a walk-in sculpture with the floor plan of a Star of David. The art project conceived by the artists Oskar Stocker and Luis Rivera is also a visible sign of Jewish life in Innsbruck. When strangers intruded, the interior was damaged, said Günter Lieder, head of the Jewish community. Part of the work of art had to be dismantled for security reasons. Vandalism or anti-Semitic act? According to the police, there are currently no indications of an anti-Semitic act, but the incident is reported to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The work of art is to be repaired, including a reference to video surveillance.
