The new Arceus Pokémon Legends feature allows players to catch rare Pokémon from previous generations. Here’s how to make space-time distortions appear.
Similar to the wormhole mechanics of Sun and Moon, the space-time warp feature in Pokémon Legends Arceus allows Trainers to encounter characters from previous entries in the series.
The only problem is that there’s a lot of mystery around how space-time warps work. This guide outlines the best method for making distortions appear on your map.

How to Unlock Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends Arceus
To unlock Space-Time Distortions, Game Freak requires players to complete Mission 7: Lord of the Woods’ Frenzy.
After completing the quest and traveling to the Land of Mire Crimson, you will be informed that the feature is now active.
The game lets you know when a Distortion is active because a banner flashes in the center of the screen. Rifts are hard to miss, as they are massive purple domes falling from the sky.
How to Spawn Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends Arceus
Since the launch of the game, there have been many guesses about how Space-Time Warps appear. From catching every Pokemon on the map to fast-traveling to Jubilife Village to rest, there were plenty of theories on how to trigger them.
After hours of rigorous testing, we now have a better understanding of how this mechanism works. The best way to trigger Distortions is to do nothing at all. According to the famous Pokémon site Serebii and verified by several users, Space-Time Warps CANNOT be forced.
“There is no way to force a space-time warp to occur, as they are random, but they are decided when you enter the area or reset the state or the last warp ends”. “Resetting the area’s state while waiting will reset it and battling a Pokemon or being in a menu will pause the time stream.”
Spatiotemporal Rifts appear as gigantic purple domes.
While you could technically reset your chances by returning to Jubilife Village, the likelihood of a Distortion appearing immediately is so low that it’s much more consistent to just wait on the map.
Interestingly, since Pokémon battles pause the card’s internal timer, Trainers shouldn’t engage in battles either. This is the best way to spawn Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends Arceus:
- Load your map and fast travel to a camp
- Stand still and wait.
- Arceus will do an internal check every five minutes, which has a chance of spawning space-time distortion
- Do not fight wild Pokemon, as this will pause this timer
- Once you receive notification that a warp has formed, travel to the space rift and wait for it to fully form.
