If you are a fan of Pokémon cards, you surely did not miss the announcement of cards from Niantic’s mobile game, Pokémon GO. This set, containing no less than 78 cards apart from the secret ones, may hold some surprises like the one we are going to talk about today and which may recall another TCG.
A Keunotor can hide another Pokémon!
the Pokémon GO card set is scheduled for early July with us, some players were able to discover a few cards in advance. Among the cards that can be seen, we find V cards like Mewtwo or Noadkoko from Alolabut what interests us is a Keunotor card that you can see on the Pokécardex Tweet below.
The particularity of this card is the small metamorph logo located at the bottom left (next to the card number). This logo may seem trivial like that, but that’s where it takes on its full meaning since this card has a sticker that can be peeled off to reveal not Keunotor, but a Ditto. We don’t know if other cards are like this or if it’s exclusively for reverse cards. However, there is a nod to what happens when you capture a Ditto in Niantic’s game.
In effect ; when you capture a monster on your smartphone, it may not be the one you see, but the famous Morphing Pokémon. After being captured, Ditto returns to its original form. This is where the initiative to use this kind of maps may have come from.
A style of cards already seen?
If you think that this novelty on the side of Pokémon is totally innovative, you should know that it is a concept that has already existed for years since in the 1990s, the Dragon Ball Z Carddass cards already had this principle of sticker over the base card. Afterwards, the Magic license also made this system for some cards. In the end, it’s innovative for the Pokémon license, but not in the TCG world, however, it’s a great idea to introduce Metamorph into a set of cards.
