Pokemon Go Mega Evolutions Could Change

Pokémon Go’s Mega Evolution mechanic has been poorly received since its arrival in August 2020, but recent information may well be a game-changer.

In the eyes of trainers around the world, Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Go are no match for their counterparts in the main game. Seeming to fall short of expectations, the Pokémon X/Y feature was criticized by the community for the way Niantic initially handled the mechanic.

Although the feature has been improved since its debut in August 2020, there seem to be changes that benefit each other on the horizon. These might help in better reception of the Mega Evolution.

Pokémon Go’s Mega Evolution is getting a much-needed overhaul.

How does Mega Evolution work in Pokémon Go?

The Mega Evolution works very differently from its counterpart in the main games, as do most of the features built into Pokémon Go.

To Mega Evolve in the mobile game, the player must acquire and spend consumable Mega Energy in order to use the mechanic in combat.

The cost of the consumable is significant, causing players to complete Mega Raids to receive more of this resource. Thus the trainers have a certain disdain for the Mega Evolution because of the farming necessary beforehand to exploit it.

Data mining suggests that the new system will work like the Pokémon buddy system.

Data miners uncover potential big changes for Mega Evolution in Pokémon Go

The data miners of “PokeMiners” shared new findings suggesting a complete overhaul of the Mega Evolution feature in Pokémon Go. Indeed, it was discovered that Niantic may incorporate a similar system for Mega Evolutions that the game currently uses for Pokémon buddies.

Allowing the player to mega-evolve a creature they have already mega-evolved with little or no cost could therefore be the order of the day. Also, if your Buddy rank is high enough, then you would have the option to evolve it without using Mega Energy.

Niantic also appears to be rolling out some new perks to the feature. Additionally, the data studied suggests that Pokémon Go Trainers will be able to Mega Evolve their prized companions ahead of Lobby Raids. Case to follow.
