Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The name of the region finally revealed!
Although we have known about the existence of the new 9G region since February already, its name had never been disclosed. Inspired by Spain and Portugal, it will finally bear the sweet name of Paldea.
We don’t know how big it will be but one thing is certain: it will be the first real open world ever designed in the Pokémon license. That is to say that we will be able to explore it freely without ever having a load or borders.
The new mechanic introduced in 9G: Teracrystallization
Since the Mega Evolution, each new generation of Pokémon allows us to discover new gameplay mechanics that intensely modify the fights. After the Z Crystals or the Dynamax, the ninth generation offers us something very different this time but with an extended name: the Teracrystallization.

- Aesthetic : This is a phenomenon unique to the Paldea region that makes Pokémon sparkle and sparkle like gemstones. a Teracrystal Jewel appears on his head like a crown, and his body shines like a gem.
- Gameplay : Each Pokémon has a Teracrystal type. This is inactive until the Pokémon is teracrystallized. After its transformation, the Pokémon takes on its Teracrystal type. For example, some Eevee will have the Normal Teracrystal type, while others will have the Water Teracrystal type. There are 18 types in all, which means there are countless combinations of Pokemon and Teracrystal types.
- Strategy : Teracrystallization improves your battle strategies by increasing the power of moves whose type matches your Pokémon’s Teracrystal type, or by changing your Pokémon’s weakness.
A new regional form
Just like in Alola, Galar, or Hisui, some Pokémon have changed their forms in the Paldea region. In the new trailer, we were able to see Axoloto in her Paldea form. Instead of being blue, he is all brown since he lives mainly in mud. He will then take the double-type Poison-Ground.
Official Description : In ancient times, the Axoloto of the Paldea region lived under water. They seem to have been driven out following a territorial struggle. They then settled in the bogs. In order not to dry out, they gradually learned to cover their bodies with a toxic film. The terrestrial lifestyle of the Axoloto of Paldea has hardened their gills. They move slowly due to their heavy bodies, but they can protect themselves by squirting a powerful poisonous liquid from their gills. It is not uncommon to see poisoned Pokémon near where these Axoloto live.
Other new Pokemon
In addition to this Paldea Axoloto, we were able to observe some new 9G creatures such as:
- Balbaleze : Of type Ice, the impressive musculature of Balbalèze allows him to support his immense stature. She also gives her physical attacks phenomenal power. Protected by its thick layer of fat, it migrates to snowy regions.
- Patachiot : Of type Fairy, Pâtachiot’s smooth, moist skin is elastic. It is therefore both firm and flexible. When he is agitated, he intimidates his opponents by inflating his body in order to appear more imposing.
The Legendaries turn into motorcycles… but not only!
In order to explore the open world of Paldea, the two Legendaries, Koraidon and Miraidon, will be able to take the form of motorized vehicles. It will make it much easier for you to surf on water, ride on land, climb mountains or even fly in the sky!
Koraidon being a prehistoric Legendary, he will use his limbs to run, swim or climb cliffs. Miraidon, for its part, represents the future and technology. He will therefore use his reactors and his wheels to enter Aquatic, Terrestrial or Aerial Mode.
