On November 18, 2022, the two new versions of the license will be released: Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple. Although many mysteries remain to be solved concerning this ninth generation (who really are the Legendaries? How does the duality between tradition and technology work? etc.), the recent trailer tells us a little more about how the Pokéballs work.
Pokéball logic explained in Pokémon Legends Arceus
Remember, it is indeed in Arceus Legends, released in January 2022, that we were officially learning how the Balls worked. Professor Lavender, from the beginning of the adventure when it is necessary to catch the starters, explained to us then that it was not the Pokéball which allowed to reduce the creatures in order to contain them but the opposite: these are the Pokémon that have the ability to decrease their size to be able to get inside. An important subtlety since this secret had never been revealed in 26 years of existence of the license.
Of course, the Pokémon cartoon or even manga already showed us that the creatures reduced in size until they fit inside the Balls, but there was never any mention of the pocket monster shrinking itself.

As explained above, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen miniature pocket monsters inside their pods. On the other hand, we never fully saw the downsizing process take place. Thanks to the latest Pokémon Scarlet and Purple gameplay trailer, we can see pohma new 9G monster, reduce its size to be able to fit into the Ball of its trainer.
It was content creator CaylaCapsule, on Twitter, who analyzed the trailer frame by frame to find this revolutionary image for the license: “Remember how #PokemonLegendsArceus said that Pokemon shrink to fit their Pokéballs? Well apparently that’s true because check out this photo of Menzi’s Pohm in the #PokemonScarletViolet trailer!!! It’s so cool that # Pokemon included that detail!”
The way Pokémon enter Balls is therefore official now and we can’t wait to play Scarlet and Violet for even more images like this!
