The trailer released during the 2022 Pokémon World Championships allowed us to learn more about the battles that can take place in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple. What we can say is that it turns out to be rather interesting. Let’s take a closer look.
A new Dragon Pokémon appears!
In the released trailer, we were able to discover one of the new Pokémon that will integrate the ninth generation. The latter is called Motorizard and he will have the dual-type Dragon/Normal as had Draïeul before him. From what is known about it, it is the Mount Pokémon and has been present in homes in the Paldea region since ancient times. He can also run at over 120km/h with a human on his back. Some might even find him any similarity with the legendaries and that can be understood. To see if it will have a link with them, even if it is difficult to know at the moment.
This new creature will have the right to a new attack called Queulonage which is a mix between Cloning and Relay. In fact, this ability allows you to create a clone by sacrificing some HP and switch directly afterwards, which allows the Pokémon entering the field to be directly under a clone without having to sacrifice HP. A mechanic that could be of great strategic interest in the ninth generation, especially if other Pokémon can learn it.

The information that will surely interest the most players, especially when talking about Worlds or competition, is the multiplayer mode and the different types of combat that the game will offer. Let’s find out the details together.
First of all, you should know that the multiplayer battles will take place in the Battle Stadium. You will find there the different types of fights that you have already had in the past.
- Ranked fight : Allows you to make matches against opponents in order to determine your level. Tiers go all the way up to Master Ball rank.
- friendly fight : No-stakes fight where all Pokémon are allowed
- Online competition : Allows you to take part in official competitions or to create your own friendly competition.
Besides that, you will have a “Borrow Teams” menu that will allow you to borrow Combat Teams that will be associated with IDs. You will thus have the possibility of testing teams coming from other players, but also of sharing your own. Note that you will obviously need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to take advantage of it. Also, it was not specified if the replays would be available or not.
Items and New Attacks in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple
In addition to the new Pokémon and online battles, we also had the right to discover some elements such as new attacks or new objects. As for the new attacks, we will not come back to Queulonage since we have already talked about it previously. However, let’s talk about Tera Explosion attack which, as its name suggests, is linked to Teracrystallization. In effect, this ability will take the type of the teracrystallized Pokemon. For example, a teracrystallized Grodrive that is Fire type will have a Tera Explosion of that type.
As for the objects shown, the first is called Copy Sheet. It will have the effect of copy stat increases when consumed. This means that if a Pokémon places itself and the object is used, you can avoid having to increase your characteristics yourself. The second is the Die Piped which will aim toincrease the chance to hit for attacks that can hit multiple times like Balle Graine for example or Boule Roc.
