Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: What could the final starter evolutions look like?

Since last Sunday, the Pokemon community has known the next games that will take them on a new adventure. With a trailer that could make you believe in a Detective Pikachu 2 at first glance, it was finally the ninth generation that was revealed with the Scarlet and Purple versions. Who says new generation, says new starters and since we know them, the players began to imagine their final forms. So let’s take a look at some of the fan art on offer before concluding with our expectations. And if you don’t know the starters, you can find them in the article below.

Alright, let’s start with some fan art from each of the starters before we see some fan art showcasing all three evolutions. Feel free to follow the different artists if you like the designs they come up with.

Hairdresser

The first of the starters is Coiffeton and we can say it, there is potential although some will surely be disappointed to see the final result which will perhaps be far from their expectations or, conversely, pleasantly surprised. Anyway, here is the first fan art of SIUPER_ROOKIE which offers us an evolution based on a ship captain rather coherent and which could very well be in the spirit of the first form.

The artist doodletime_ offers the three stages of development of the little duckling. Once again, we find consistency by ending with a captain or pirate bird. The design is rather interesting and possibly viable.

Another fan art from Ridley featuring a really interesting alternative Coiffeton evolution. The latter represents a fighting bird with a weapon. With this image, we can see another viable evolution possibility.

Pushed

Now let’s move on to Poussacha who had the right to some fan art as well. Although neither of them seems to be viable for the final evolution of this starter, they nevertheless remain good illustrations with the first signed FA being able to represent the famous Arbracha which would be the name we could give it with such an evolution.

The second illustration coming from Dan Moggo and this one will surely not please everyone the idea remains however to be noted even if there is little chance of having this style of final evolution.

Chochodile

Chochodile also had the right to its fan arts and we have retained one that is quite nice. Indeed, Geee Concepts offers us a final evolution based on the big t-rex and the result is conclusive. In the end, will Chochodile evolve into a crocodile or another reptile? Is a dinosaur the final evolution Game Freak has in store for us? At the moment, we don’t know, but given some elements from the old starters, the dinosaur track seems not to be the right one.

The three evolutions

KnightOwlArt offers its share of evolutions for each starter and they are consistent. We find a seabird, a feline and a crocodile. Developments that could very well be viable or even simply be those of the intermediate stages.

The latest fan art offered by JUMBO reveals evolutions for each starter and these seem consistent with the basic forms of each Pokémon although the snake is not necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when seeing Chochodile. For the other two, they are believable evolutions and could be easily visualized by seeing the basic shapes.

Our expectations for the evolutions of the starters?

To end this article, we will come back to our predictions on the final evolutions. Pokémon starters have always been linked to a specific theme.

  • Plant: Ancient Creatures
  • Fire: Chinese signs
  • Water: weapons

To address these themes while keeping unevolved forms consistent, here’s what we think for each of the starters.

  • Pushed : Being a plant Pokémon, we must therefore expect an evolution based on a feline and the one that seems closer to the theme is the saber tooth tiger (or smilodon). As for the double type, why not Plant/Darkness Where Plant/rock.
  • Chochodile : although the latter is a crocodile, its evolution should turn towards the snake which is one of the twelve Chinese signs not used by the license for a fire starter. Also, if we are indeed in Spain, it could correspond to Quetzalcoatl better known as the Feathered Serpent. The latter is one of the deities from Mexico. It could also be similar to Amphisbaena which is a serpent from Roman mythology with one head in front and another behind. In reality, it is a family of reptiles derived from squamates, one of the known species of which is called Blanus cinereus and is located in Spain and Portugal. The double type of this evolution would be Fire/Dragon.
  • Hairdresser : the latter could evolve into seabird with a harpoon for example. Which would fit the logic of having a weapon-themed water-based starter and given its design, the sailor wouldn’t be surprising. The other possibility would be to see it become a pirate and therefore he could use his wings as swords. For the double type of the Water starter, we would see Water/fight Where Water/Flight.

And that’s what concludes this article with several possible leads. Of course, none of this is official and these are just assumptions. It’s up to you whether you agree or not. To see where Game Freak and The Pokémon Company will go. And you, what developments do you expect?

Game Freak loves dropping hints about future plans in their Pokémon games. It is almost certain that Gen 9 with Scarlet and Violet has been teased in Pokémon Sword and Shield and even in Pokémon Legends Arceus!
