Pokemon Scarlet Violet multiplayer: Everything we know about 4-player co-op!

This week, we were treated to a new trailer of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple. The opportunity to learn more about the ninth generation with in particular the two Legendaries of the jackets, the starters and some new creatures like Olivini, Gormelet and Pohm. These creatures who already have hundreds of memes and fanarts in their likeness so much their design has pleased the community (not to mention the two absolutely magnificent teachers and the rival/friend).

But the trailer was also an opportunity tosee a little more about the open world of the region inspired by Spain and Portugal and its exploration. One of the most striking passages of the trailer is undoubtedly the one where 4 young trainers meet to exchange and fight, but also start running each in a different direction. We then discover varied biomes between beach, mountain and meadow and the video then suggests that the adventure can be done by several people.

But then, will we really be able to play these two new versions entirely in multiplayer coop, from start to finish? Or will we only be able to enjoy a few features as was the case in Sword and Shield, with just a lot of exploration added?

An open world that can be explored by 4 people?

For the very first time in the license, Pokémon Scarlet and Purple will offer an open-world adventure. We remind you, Pokémon Legends Arceus was not an open-world since you had to return to the village in order to be able to go to the different areas of the old Sinnoh. An open world therefore, which, according to the official site, will be:

  • filled with varied riches,
  • freely explored without taking into account the scenario, in the order you want,
  • fully exploreable solo or with others, up to 4 players.

Unfortunately, the only official announcement we have on the multiplayer mode at the moment is the following:

You will not only be able to enjoy the series’ signature activities, such as trading and battling Pokémon, but also explore the various locations in the region with other players. Discover new Pokémon and explore unknown lands with your loved ones for an adventure that is richer and more fun than ever!

With these remarks, we therefore do not know if the adventure will be able to start directly in coop, if the latter will be both local and online (we imagine that yes of course), and if there will be a limit of achievable activities. in multiplayer. We’ll probably have to wait for the next trailer to learn more about it.

Multiplayer mode: what we imagine

Our theory, like many other Internet users, is as follows: the start of the Scarlet or Violet adventure will be solo only, the time of course to create his character, to choose his starter and to meet the Professor who will accompany us throughout. Once one of the big towns in the region has been reached, the multiplayer mode can then be unlocked (count about one to two hours of play) and you can invite, locally or online, up to three other players to join the game.

Side progress, we imagine that the invited players will be able to keep the levels that they will have made their Pokémon take, the creatures that they will have captured in our game or the objects that they will have picked up. It’s hard to imagine if the main scenario will be feasible in multiplayer: will the arena fights be adapted according to the number of players present? Will the main player have to leave the multiplayer mode to be able to enter it? A lot of questions currently without answers but it is not difficult to imagine a clever mix of all possible options. And you, what do you imagine?

As a reminder, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be available on Friday, November 18, 2022 on Nintendo Switch.

Game Freak loves dropping hints about future plans in their Pokémon games. It is almost certain that Gen 9 with Scarlet and Violet has been teased in Pokémon Sword and Shield and even in Pokémon Legends Arceus!
