The Pokémon come to the Van Gogh Museum for an artistic collaboration that is unexpected to say the least.
After Pringles and Gray Colombia, we are treated to a new unusual union. From this Thursday, September 28, 2023, and until January 7, 2024 at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, it is possible to rediscover many Pokémon in a whole new light. Several famous works from the Van Gogh collection served as inspiration for the paintings created by The Pokémon Company artists.
Pokémon revisited with Van Gogh sauce
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum, the latter has joined forces with the Pokémon license, which has not lacked new releases lately, in order to present the works of Vincent Van Gogh to a whole new audience. According to Emilie Gordenker, the general director of the museum, “ this collaboration will allow the new generation to know the art and life of Vincent Van Gogh in a new way “.
For this, the artists of The Pokémon Company were able to draw inspiration from various existing works, to revisit certain emblematic paintings by Van Gogh, such as Self-portrait with felt hat with Pikachu, but also The sunflowers with Héliatronc, or even The bedroom with Snorlax.
In total, there are 6 paintings to admire on the first floor of the building.
An adventure, a guide and even educational content!
But that’s not all ! Indeed, this collaboration will also allow visitors aged 6 and over to enjoy a little fun activity, with a book Pokémon Adventure which will allow them to learn more about the museum and the paintings. Once the course is completed, it is possible to exchange your booklet for a special “ Pikachu x Van Gogh Museum “.
Added to this is a short video guide, available directly in the museum and which will allow visitors to learn how to draw Pikachu. A boutique also offers a range of exclusive products Pokémon x Van Gogh highlighting the different works of this collaboration.
Obviously, this collaboration is an opportunity for the museum to attract new visitors, who will be able to enjoy more than 200 paintings, almost 500 drawings and more than 700 letters, the largest collection in the world of works by Vincent Van Gogh. .
