Polaroid enters the portable Bluetooth speaker market

What could Polaroid have stung to enter such a highly competitive market as that of portable Bluetooth speakers? However, the American company seems confident in unveiling a new line of products called Polaroid Music and today made up of four speakers: the Polaroid P1, P2, P3 and P4. To stand out from its well-established competitors, Polaroid relies on a colorful and particularly assertive design as well as on a brand new online radio service called Polaroid Radio.

Measuring 39.5 x 32.2 x 14 cm and weighing 2.68 kg, the Polaroid P4 is the largest model launched by Polaroid. It skilfully mixes the plastic shells with the mesh fabric parts and is topped with a steel handle to facilitate its transport. There are six control buttons placed on the top of the speaker as well as a wheel to control the volume. Moreover, the power button takes the color red in homage to the triggers of the cameras designed by the brand. A touch screen is also present on the front and allows you to juggle between Polaroid radios and display different information.

Like the very assertive design, the placement of the loudspeakers could be subject to debate, especially since no information is given by the manufacturer. Mono design? Stereo? Type of speaker used? Nothing of that. Polaroid only states the output power which would be 60W RMS and the frequency response range: 60Hz – 20kHz (≥75dB(A)). However, we guess the presence of a speaker dedicated to the reproduction of bass and two tweeters at its side.

In addition to Bluetooth, the Polaroid P4 has a mini-jack input and an NFC chip to facilitate pairing. It is also possible to pair two Polaroid P4s to obtain a stereo system. Autonomy is announced at 15 hours per charge. Finally, the Polaroid P4 can be controlled using the new Polaroid Music mobile app, launched alongside these colorful speakers. The Polaroid P4 is already available in black or yellow for €289.99.

Let’s continue our tour of the owner with the Polaroid P3, which adopts a slightly less original shape than its big sister. However, it remains large enough (30 x 14 x 7 cm for 1.48 kg) to be classified among the portable speakers (category comprising Bluetooth speakers weighing more than one kg). The materials remain the same while the steel handle and the control screen are always present.

Still as little information is given to us as to the acoustic architecture, apart from the output power (35 W RMS) and the frequency response range (100 Hz – 20 kHz (≥ 75dB (A)). buttons, connection possibilities, functionalities and autonomy are identical to those present on the P4.The P3 is also available today in multiple colors and at a price of €189.99.

In third position, we find the Polaroid P2 with its 22 x 9 x 5 cm and its 660 g. We therefore go down a notch in terms of the size of the loudspeaker but also in terms of the power delivered (20 W RMS) and the extension in the low frequencies (165 Hz – 20 kHz (≥ 75 dB (A )). It now has only two speakers and abandons the carrying handle in favor of a fabric loop and a carabiner. The Polaroid P2 then takes over the rest of the features and functions also present on the P4 models. and P3. The Polaroid P2 is available for sale at a price of € 129.99. Five colors are available: blue, white, red, yellow and black.

Finally comes the Polaroid P1, the youngest of this new range. If the other three speakers are similar in their functionality, this little P1 is much more modest than its big sisters. It is obviously much smaller (10 x 10 x 4 cm for 300 g) but also less enduring (10 hours of autonomy promised). Then, it only has one speaker and is less powerful (10 W RMS) while being more timid at the bass level (150 Hz – 20 kHz (60 dB (A)). The P1 does not carry no screen and loses two control buttons as well as the possibility of NFC pairing.It is also not possible to control it via the Polaroid Music app.

Fortunately, it retains the mini-jack input and the possibility of stereo pairing with another P1. It also has a carabiner to facilitate its transport and is IPX5 certified: it is therefore resistant to water jets, unlike its three elders. The Polaroid P1 is also available today for €59.99.
