Polestar is a Swedish premium manufacturer belonging to the Chinese group Geely, which exclusively designs electric vehicles. If its arrival in France was blocked for a time by a complaint from DS Automobile, things have worked out and it will arrive here, in particular with the Polestar 3, deliveries of which are finally starting. And this vehicle is arriving with a long-range version.
Difficult beginnings
Initially scheduled for mid-2023, production of the Polestar 3 electric crossover was delayed and pushed back to the first quarter of 2024. Eventually, the first models were handed over to customers during a special ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
To thank them for their patience, the happy new owners received a gift box in addition to their highly anticipated new car.
This is an important milestone: the first deliveries of Polestar 3 to our customers. Polestar becomes a global player with the most attractive range of electric products.
Deliveries will follow in other markets where the manufacturer is present, notably in Norway, Germany and the USA. For France, we will still have to wait until the brand is effectively established, in 2025.
A beautiful range
The Polestar 3 is a 4.90-meter-long, all-electric SUV that slots between the Tesla Model Y (4.75 m) and X (5.05 m). Until now, the model was marketed with a powertrain comprising two electric motors for a combined power of 489 hp and 840 Nm, powered by a 111 kWh battery allowing 600 km of autonomy.
By opting for the Performance pack, the customer could afford 517 hp and 909 Nm of torque, but at the cost of a reduced range. The Long Range version that Polestar has just unveiled does the opposite, reducing the power to increase the range.
This entry-level version still has the 111 kWh battery, but powers a single motor, placed on the rear axle, of 299 hp and 490 Nm. 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 7.8 seconds (4.9 and 4.6 seconds for the aforementioned variants) and the car has a WLTP range of 650 km. As a reminder, a Tesla Model X offers at best 576 km WLTP.
On the charging side, in optimal conditions, it will take just 30 minutes to recharge from 10 to 80% via the 250 kW DC fast charger.
Currently available to order in certain markets, this Long Range version costs €79,890 before options in our German neighbours.
