In "Polizeiruf 110: Sabine" Katrin König and Alexander Bukow have to catch a serial killer. Is it worth switching on?

Anyone who still believes that "Polizeiruf 110" is just the small, inconspicuous brother of the "Tatort" will be taught better in the new case from Rostock. In "Polizeiruf 110: Sabine" (March 14th, 8:15 pm, the first), Katrin König (Anneke Kim Sarnau, 49) and Alexander "Sascha" Bukow (Charly Hübner, 48) deal with a mother who is out Despair crosses all boundaries. And as if that weren't bad enough, Bukow also has to deal with the death of his father, his half-sister suddenly appears and he also has a lot to sort out with König.

This is what "Polizeiruf 110: Sabine" is all about

Sabine Brenner (Luise Heyer, 35, "The boy has to get some fresh air") is on the brink: she toil at work to enable her son Jonas (Ilja Bultmann) to have a better life. But there is not enough money to live on. When the Arunia shipyard in Rostock, where she works as a service employee, is threatened with closure, her life is completely shaken. Out of desperation, she takes up arms and takes rigorous action against people who, in her opinion, deserve it.

König and Bukow are initially completely in the dark. You work against time, because Sabine doesn't stop killing. No one would have trusted the single mother with such bloody deeds. In addition to this explosive case, there are other things to clarify: Sascha finds it difficult to say goodbye to his late father Veit (Klaus Manchen, 84) and his half-sister Melly (Lina Beckmann, 39, married to Charly Hübner in real life) crosses at the funeral service on. Besides, something serious is about to happen with König …

Is it worth switching on?

Yes! In "Polizeiruf 110: Sabine" everything just fits. The audience is served a first-class study of society – including a nerve-wracking showdown. The story revolves around a single mother who, despite having a job, does not have enough money to support her family. Social inequality and a lack of prospects are part of their everyday life. "I wanted to give the invisible little woman a leading role," says screenwriter Florian Oeller (42).

And this woman is also brought to the fore in terms of camera technology: Extreme close-ups allow you to get very close to the figure and see her empty, tired eyes. There is no corpse for a long time: In the first 30 minutes, the viewer follows Sabine through her world, sees her grief – which creates understanding and compassion for the character. The role of the desperate woman is tailor-made for actress Luise Heyer: the transformation of the shy mother into an unpredictable serial killer almost takes your breath away. "It was a gift to be able to work with someone like Luise Heyer," confirms director Stefan Schaller (38).

But do not worry, the popular Rostock investigators are not neglected in the new "Polizeiruf 110". The last Rostock thriller "The day will come" (June 2020) ended with a kiss. In "Sabine" the horizontal narrative thread is taken up again and spun on. Over the years something has been developing between the two characters, who have been hunting criminals together in Rostock since 2010. "It was a long start," jokes Charly Hübner.

The best thing about it: The two form a kind of calm haven within the stormy fall. Bukow and König calmly convey their emotions with looks, touches and gestures. Fans do not get to hear gay vows of love. How does it go between the two of them? "I believe that both of them want to, but probably also know that it is not easy," was Anneke Kim Sarnau's verdict.
