Police controlled – Few violations in the first week of lockdown

The police are happy after the first week of lockdown. With a few exceptions, the Burgenlanders adhere to the regulations and are also very cooperative with regard to controls. Since this is now the fourth lockdown, a lot is already routine – even at the borders.

Austria has been in lockdown for a week. The police are also busy again checking compliance with the measure. Much has already happened with the fourth edition of the curfews. Commuters from Hungary are already well prepared for the entry controls at the borders and show their certificates and proof of employment. “The processing is very quick and brisk,” explains police spokesman Helmut Marban. So far, there have hardly been any traffic jams. No shopping in Hungary “Lockdown refugees” who, for example, go to Hungary to shop have not caught any attention so far. Such excursions are difficult to bring in line with the measures in force. In general, there is less going on at the borders, as many commuters, such as hairdressers, currently do not have to go to work.18 Violations The police checks are carried out in the course of regular operations. In the case of traffic controls, for example, compliance with the curfew is also checked. There were 4090 lockdown controls until last Sunday. There were only 18 reports or board mandates due to violations of the measures. Six organ penal mandates for violating the Covid regulations were imposed over the weekend as part of a nationwide grid square. According to Marban, most of the cases are minor offenses. Penalty is the last resort If there are reports, the facts are passed on to the health authority, which then decides on the amount of the penalty. At the weekend, in the course of a nationwide grid square, six additional organ penalties were imposed for violating the Covid regulations. Population cooperative, however, penalties and reports are always only the last resort. The police spokesman emphasizes that the conversation is always sought first. The population is very cooperative with the controls. “The people show a lot of understanding,” says Marban.
