On February 16, a young woman named Julia Wendell claimed to be young Maddie McCann, who disappeared nearly sixteen years ago while on vacation with her parents. Claims that the police now deny.

The happy ending in the Maddie McCann case will not happen at this time. On May 3, 2007, 3-year-old Madeleine McCann disappeared from a resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, where she was staying with her parents. A case which, at the time, was very followed by the media, and which, fifteen years later, remains unsolved despite the numerous investigations and leads studied by the police. Drug case, kidnapping by a pedophile, even the girl’s parents are suspected of being involved in this kidnapping, while the chances of finding the child alive are dwindling. To this are gradually added twists, such as the arrest, in 2020, of the pedophile Christian Brueckner, but also, recently, the assertions of a young woman claiming to be Maddie.

Thus, on February 16, Julia Wendell, a young German woman aged 21, threw a bottle overboard on Instagram, in order to get in touch with Kate and Gerry McCann. “I think I could be Madeleine. I need a DNA test”she confided in a ten-minute live, where she also explains that it was her grandmother who told her that she had been, a few years earlier, “hurt by a pedophile”. Of the claims quickly refuted by the police. According to a spokesperson, “the investigations carried out at this stage contradict the version presented by this young woman. The investigation is ongoing, but we can already rule out that this version is true”he told the media gazetarelayed by The Dispatch.

She also refused the possibility of being treated in a very good center in Poland which agreed to take her”thus specified his relatives, who describe the “lies” and the “handling” constants of the young woman. “We saw it all, and we tried to prevent it, to explain. We asked him to stop”, they affirmed, specifying that “Julia […] always wanted to be popular”. Maddie McCann’s parents have agreed to undergo a DNA test, the results of which should be known in the coming weeks.
