Police investigate – Liliputbahn derailed in the Prater: attack suspected

Shock in the Wurstelprater in Vienna: A screw caused the locomotive to tip over, but luckily no one was injured. Is there a cowardly act of sabotage behind it?

On Sunday around 11:15 a.m. a dangerous incident occurred in the Wurstelprater near the popular Liliput Railway. The legendary train derailed. Passengers got out on their own. The accident happened very close to the “Schweizerhaus-Luftburg” station. Fortunately, no one was injured – all passengers and the train driver were able to get out safely. About an hour later, the crashed Liliputbahn was lifted back onto the correct track using a crane. Driving operations resumed at 2:45 p.m. The shock is still deep because a cowardly act of sabotage is suspected behind the accident. Police have already started investigations. The Liliputbahn says to the “Krone” that a massive, screw-like piece of metal was found at the scene of the accident, which probably caused the locomotive to derail. A complaint has been filed against an unknown person – the police are investigating. The locomotives of the Liliputbahn reach a speed of around 30 kilometers per hour. The entire route is almost four kilometers long and takes about 20 minutes. The popular railway was put into operation for the first time in 1928. It started its 96th season in mid-March.
