police investigate sex offenders

Police are continuing their search to find 16-year-old Kiely alive after she disappeared from a party in California two weeks ago.

Kiely’s mother wants to continue to keep hope alive, but the police move forward with no results. It’s been two weeks since the 16-year-old disappeared during a party in California. While she had sent a last message to her mother explaining that she was coming home, she never arrived. After searching, probing and flying over the area without success, the police announced a new phase of more limited searches, for lack of real progress.

On Saturday, authorities said they were researching sex offenders who may have escaped their radar, ABC News reported. The Truckee Police Department, in partnership with the Placer County Probation Department and the Auburn Police Department, conducted sweeps throughout the area Thursday. The goal was to find possible offenders who would have violated their parole. One person was arrested and another was awaiting charge on Friday. However, no details were provided in this regard. Kiely Rodni’s name and face have also been added to the FBI’s missing persons list. Police said they received more than 1,200 calls, some of which led to further searches, including at a site near the campsite where the party took place. But the remains discovered there belonged to a dead dog.

“People don’t talk to us”

In total, between 200 and 300 people, teenagers and young adults, were at the party, but few agreed to cooperate with the police. “People aren’t talking to us,” Officer Angela Musallam of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office told the New York Post. “A lot of people who were at the party are going to start college and they’re afraid it will ruin their future, or something like that,” she added. According to the “Sun”, men in their late twenties would indeed have distributed free drugs, including mushrooms and cocaine during the evening. Alcohol was also allegedly consumed, which is illegal in the United States under 21 years of age. “Although we condemn illegal activities, for this particular investigation, they are not our priority. We are not going to arrest anyone for drug and alcohol use. We want to find Kiely,” assured Angela Musallam. “We ask people who know something, do you want to live with this weight on your conscience? You will have to live until the end of your life with the idea that a family will never have the answers concerning their daughter. Just tell us where she is. Her family has suffered enough,” she added. Earlier this week, Lt. Joshua Barnhart acknowledged “an isolated incident that we were able to get over” in which some adults advised teenagers and young adults not to talk to investigators.

Authorities said last week they had recovered CCTV footage showing the teenager on the Friday night she disappeared around 6.30pm from a shop in Truckee, where the party was taking place. The images have been released, in particular by the FBI, but do not, however, provide new leads for research. On Saturday, the police explained at a press conference that the last internet data from the girl’s phone was located at the campsite, near the water, “but it is difficult to give an exact location, outside or in the water”. After releasing several photos of Kiely, police on Sunday revealed another image that matched an item of clothing she may have been wearing that evening. It’s a white and pink hoodie with ‘Odd Future’ written on it that she was filmed wearing at the party. Last week, police said Kiely may also have borrowed another hoodie, this time reading, “You don’t want to be forgotten, you just want to disappear.” These words are taken from the lyrics of a song by Lana Del Rey.
