Police officer injured in Marseille knife attack, assailant kills him


PARIS (Reuters) – A man armed with a knife attacked municipal police on Saturday morning in the center of Marseille, injuring one of them, said the Minister of the Interior, Grald Darmanin, present on the spot.

The assailant, hit by a shot from one of the police officers, later succumbed to his injuries, we learned from a police source.

The injured police officer, “is in shock, is fine”, said the Minister of the Interior to journalists, alongside the mayor of Marseille, Benot Payan, according to whom the reaction of the police, one of whom shot at the assailant, had made it possible to avoid “perhaps the worst”.
