The police custody of a police officer who had shot and injured a young man in a car in the Hauts-de-Seine after refusing to comply was lifted on Tuesday evening “pending the continuation of the ‘Investigation and technical measures,’ said the Nanterre prosecutor’s office on Wednesday, requested by AFP. The official indicated during his interrogation “not knowing under what conditions the shot was fired”, which, for the prosecution, “constitutes one of the points on which the investigations will have to relate”.
An investigation entrusted to the IGPN
The policeman, born in 1973, had been placed Tuesday morning in police custody as part of an investigation entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) for violence with a weapon by a person holding public authority.
The four occupants of the car – three adult men and a minor woman – were still in police custody on Wednesday to determine who was driving it during the chase, the prosecution told AFP. Tuesday morning, around 5:30 a.m., the Clio had refused to stop at a police checkpoint in Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) and headed for Hauts-de-Seine.
Passenger taken to hospital
She was finally stopped in Courbevoie by a stick, a tool for puncturing tires. According to the first elements of the investigation, the police tried to get the occupants of the vehicle out of the smoked windows, locked in the passenger compartment. Unable to do so, one of the officials broke a window with the butt of his service weapon from which a shot is, according to his first statements, accidentally fired.
One of the passengers was shot in the leg and taken to hospital. An investigation, entrusted to the departmental security of Hauts-de-Seine, was opened for aggravated refusal to comply.
