Police officers lynched in Lyon: a suspect arrested then exonerated

Following the violent attack on three police officers in Lyon in the Guillotière district, an individual was arrested, the Minister of the Interior announced on Twitter on Sunday July 24. During the day, the Lyon prosecutor’s office then announced that the individual had been “exoneratedregarding violence against police officers.

Gérald Darmanin then reacted on Twitter, insisting that “related to the events or not», the individual is «known for numerous accusations: theft, violence, death threat against a person holding public authority, possession of drugs, violence in meetings“. Facts that justify, in the eyes of the Minister of the Interior, his placement in a detention center: “This individual has nothing to do in our country which is generous if we respect it“.

On Wednesday evening, three plainclothes police officers were violently attacked in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon while trying to arrest a person suspected of theft. The plainclothes crewintervened for a snatch robbery when they were very quickly attacked by the crowd“, told AFP a police source, adding that the suspect had taken the opportunity to flee. On a video of the scene broadcast on social networks, we see two men and a woman being beaten and thrown by projectiles in front of the entrance to a convenience store in the sensitive district of La Guillotière, in the city center.

Several members of the government but also political leaders of LR and RN had expressed their support for the injured police officers and asked the Minister of the Interior to “regain controlin the face of violence in certain neighborhoods. At the beginning of the year, a specialized field brigade was set up in the La Guillotière district to try to stem crime and trafficking there, while the acts of violence there have increased over the past two years.
