The Zurich cantonal police confirmed that the threat was received by telephone at 2 a.m. at the police operations center. The sender of the threat has not yet been caught.

There is little information available about the background to the crime. “The threat was about a dangerous object on a vehicle,” said cantonal police spokesman Roger Bonetti at the scene. The vehicle was then searched using a remote-controlled robot. Nothing suspicious was discovered. However, the investigation continues.

Several people had to leave their homes

The area near Oberwinterthur train station was cordoned off on Thursday morning due to the threat. Part of the Guggenbühl district was affected. 150 people were evacuated and some were accommodated in the nearby Technorama science museum.

The Guggenbühl school building was also affected by the police operation. According to a message from the school management, which is available to SRF, classes were canceled.

According to the police, the evacuation required a large number of emergency services. As a precaution, several ambulances were also called out. And the fire department was also on site.
