The video has made the rounds on social media: police shoot seven times in the back of a black man, now between life and death.
The images are shocking, and sparked a night of riot in the city of Kenosha in the United States. It shows a black man named Jacob Blake, who is restrained by police as he gets into his car. The latter shoot him 7 bullets in the back, in front of his children. The first facts collected remain confused.
On Sunday, August 23, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Wisconsin state police were called in for a "domestic incident." By the time they arrived at the scene, Jacob Blake was already there, according to witnesses trying to interfere in an argument. The police ask him to comply, but the man turns his back to them and begins to get into his car. The officers suddenly grab him, and fire seven shots.
The video shot on the cell phone spread quickly, and angered residents. A rally is then created, dispersed in the evening by riot police.
Indignation is keen after this new tragedy, just a few months after the much publicized death of Georges Floyd, a black man who died of suffocation by a white police officer.
The state governor has spoken about this tragedy: “Tonight Jacob Blake got shot in the back in broad daylight in Kenosha. I join his family, friends and neighbors in the sincere hope that he will not succumb to his injuries. While we do not have all the details yet, we do know that he is not the first black man to be ruthlessly shot and killed by law enforcement in our country. "
