Poll: Purchasing power is the issue that mattered most to the French before voting in the second round


Emmanuel Macron was re-elected President of the Republic with 58% of the vote on April 24, against 42% for Marine Le Pen. While many themes were discussed during the campaign, it was purchasing power that most interested voters, according to an OpinionWay survey for CNEWS.

58% cited it among the issues that mattered most to them when voting in the second round. In detail: 71% of Marine Le Pen voters were sensitive to it, and 47% of those of Emmanuel Macron.

The French also mentioned social protection (43% of them), security (34%) and immigration (32%) as determining factors in their choice of vote.

Different priorities

If the purchasing power seems to be unanimous among the French, the rest of the priorities are very different depending on the two candidates. Emmanuel Macron voters cite purchasing power (47%), social protection (39%) and the war in Ukraine (37%) to justify their decision.

Those of Marine Le Pen are more interested in purchasing power (71% of them), immigration (61%) and security (50%).

With regard to purchasing power, the re-elected president proposes an increase in social benefits. For example, it plans to triple the Macron bonus and lower the charges for the self-employed. He also mentioned the abolition of the audiovisual license fee, set at 138 euros per year in metropolitan France and 88 euros overseas.
