“Voters are more indecisive than ever”

The pollster Stephan Grünewald has a hope for the Union: “The high demoscopic values for the SPD will not be redeemed in the voting booth,” he believes. “In the voting booth, however, many voters will tick the CDU again.”

The pollster Stephan Grünewald is convinced that the current polls will not reflect the result of the federal election. “The voters say that they have never been so indecisive, and they are still in the internal decision-making process,” says the head of the Cologne market and opinion research institute Rheingold in the “early start” of ntv.

“The high demoscopic values for the SPD will not be redeemed in the voting booth”, believes Grünewald. “You trust Scholz, you consider him competent, but the SPD is the sword of Damocles for Scholz because you associate it with an unclear meaning.”

Grünewald has a hope in store for the Union and its candidate for Chancellor Armin Laschet: “At the moment, Laschet is being punished for his laughter. In the voting booth, however, many voters will tick the CDU again.”

There was no sign of a spirit of optimism in his surveys, said Grünewald. Many voters found themselves in a dilemma. “They see problems and challenges, but have no idea how to cope with them. On the one hand, they want a politician who will lead them out of the crisis with power, on the other hand, they shy away from having to change and restrict themselves.” The Greens have already reacted and toned down their messages of renunciation and change. Co-party leader Robert Habeck plays a central role, according to opinion researcher Grünewald. “The Habeck in his sensuality and tranquility ensures that it doesn’t get that bad.”
