Pope Francis has left the Policlinico Gemelli hospital in Rome. He had an emergency operation on Wednesday last week.

Pope Francis (86) has left the clinic again. And apparently in a really good mood. He smiled and waved to those waiting from the passenger seat as he was driven back to the Vatican from Rome’s Policlinico Gemelli hospital.

“Following his release from Gemelli Hospital, Pope Francis made a brief visit to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where he prayed before the Icon of Mary Salus Populi Romani ‘Salvation of the Roman People'”, tweeted “Vatican News” and showed two photos showing the Pope in a wheelchair from the back of the church.

Emergency operation a few days ago

The pontiff had to undergo an emergency operation “early Wednesday afternoon” on June 7 because of an imminent intestinal obstruction and then remain in the hospital for several days. The Pope’s symptoms had previously worsened, the Vatican said. Already in the evening of the same day it was said from the official site: “Pope Francis’ operation is over: it went without complications.”
