Pope Francis must undergo infiltrations in the right knee

Pope Francis announces that he must undergo “an intervention with infiltrationsto treat his painful right knee, which sometimes forces him to cancel meetings scheduled on his agenda, in an interview with the Italian daily Il Corriere della Sera published on Tuesday May 3.

I have a damaged ligament, I will do an intervention with infiltrations then we will see“, he told the newspaper, without further details. Questioned by AFP, Vatican sources specified that the Argentine pope, aged 85, suffered from osteoarthritis of the right knee which had damaged a ligament, that no surgery was planned and that the infiltrations would consist of injections of corticosteroid-based anti-inflammatories. “I’ve been like this for a while, I can’t walk anymore“, added the sovereign pontiff in this interview.

A week ago, Francis, who began his tenth year of pontificate in March, had to cancel his participation in planned activities due to knee pain. He must have done the same ten days ago. He also suffers from hip pain which makes him limp and underwent a delicate colon operation in July 2021.
