  • Although sensitive information is said to have flowed from his department to the Ringier publishing house, Federal Councilor Alain Berset has not lost his popularity among the population.
  • This is shown by a representative survey by the Sotomo research institute commissioned by “NZZ am Sonntag”.
  • Berset’s sympathy values have not changed since the last survey in October.

According to “NZZ am Sonntag”, Berset is the third most likeable Federal Councilor after Federal Councilors Viola Amherd (middle) and Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (SP).

However, only around 30 percent of those surveyed believe that Berset did not know that his former head of communications, Peter Lauener, passed on confidential information to the Ringier publishing house during the corona pandemic. Nevertheless, a majority of 64 percent does not believe in a resignation, as demanded by SVP politicians.

According to “NZZ am Sonntag”, Berset’s sympathy values are just as high as in the last SRG election barometer in autumn 2022. However – as the survey values showed – Berset is now polarizing more: “He is no longer the superstar”, the newspaper quotes the Sotomo- Managing director and survey co-author Michael Hermann. The current affair is largely passed by the people.

The current survey took place at the end of January. 1,558 eligible voters from German- and French-speaking Switzerland took part in the survey.
