Another German smart home provider is insolvent. Cloud services and apps will be discontinued at the end of March. This also means the end for smart home devices.
Another German smart home provider is closing its doors. As a result of insolvency proceedings, Gigaset Communications announces that the services of the Gigaset Smart Home series will be discontinued from March 29, 2024. Although the company has found a buyer, it will not take over the smart home division.
In a press release, Gigaset is now revealing what owners of smart home technology can expect. From March 29, 2024, the cloud services of the Smart Home/Care products will be discontinued. The apps for the corresponding products as well as the sensors and devices connected to them will no longer work afterwards. Booked camera service packages also end.
Gigaset bankruptcy: devices lose their usefulness
Non-performance is guaranteed for existing contractual relationships. However, it is not possible to return devices. You can only make a claim against the company if you have claims against the company itself as a result of the shutdown of the smart home products, which is unlikely to be the case for most customers. This is a big problem for all Gigaset Smart Home owners, because since the devices can no longer be used offline, most of them become useless.
However, there is one exception: As can be read in the provider’s FAQ section, the local alarm of the Gigaset Smoke smart smoke detector should continue to work after March 29th.
