Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid: up to 90 km of all-electric range for the plug-in hybrid version


With a 23% increase in sales last year, and especially with the arrival of the future all-electric Cayenne scheduled for 2025, Porsche had every interest in continuing to make its sporty SUV attractive. Even if it is the Macan that sells the best (by very little: 23,880 units delivered against 23,387 for the Cayenne), the Cayenne remains one of the cornerstones of the manufacturer. Porsche is therefore revisiting the latter, with a redesign that goes beyond simple restyling.

On the outside, the silhouette is revitalized and refined with a new front bumper, more pronounced fender flares, a new engine cover and revised front and rear light designs. Three new body colors are appearing and sports packs save 33 kg on the Cayenne Coupé version. The integration of HD Matrix LED headlights, which have 32,000 pixels per projector, ensures more targeted lighting, which avoids dazzling other road users. The brightness of the modules can be adjusted according to the driving situation, with an adjustment featuring more than 1000 different intensity levels.

Inside the cabin, the new Porsche Driver Experience, which debuted on the Porsche Taycan, is centered on the driver’s line of sight to make it easier to manage on-board functions. The main controls are grouped directly on the steering wheel or nearby. The driving assistance systems are now controlled directly from the steering wheel using the control lever on the left. For the first time, the automatic gearbox selector is located on the dashboard, which frees up space on the center console to accommodate additional storage and incorporate a new arrangement of mechanical air conditioning controls.

The Cayenne’s new cockpit now features a 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster, complemented by an optional head-up display. The 12.3-inch central screen of the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) system is enriched with new native applications such as Spotify or Apple Music. The passenger can now benefit from a separate 10.9-inch screen to access the infotainment system and even, in some markets, view streaming videos during journeys. A special privacy filter prevents the driver from seeing the contents of this screen.

In terms of engines, in addition to an optimized 4-litre V8 biturbo version (474 ​​hp and 600 Nm of torque) and a more powerful V6 turbo (353 hp and 500 Nm of torque), the Cayenne E-Hybrid now includes a V6 turbo engine supplemented by a new electric motor which develops 176 hp for a cumulative power of 470 hp. The battery also sees its capacity revised with 25.9 kWh (against 17.9 kWh for its predecessor), for a range of up to 90 km (WLTP cycle) in all-electric mode. A new 11 kW on-board charger is now standard to reduce charging time.

In France, the new Cayenne is offered for sale from €91,350 in the thermal version and starts at €105,712 in the rechargeable hybrid E-Hybrid version. It is available to order, and the first deliveries will take place from the end of July 2023.
