Porsche is planning an electric big brother to the Cayenne

After the Taycan and soon the Macan and electric 718, Porsche plans to launch a new trendy model. It will position itself above the Cayenne, currently the largest SUV in the range.

Sales of the Taycan, currently the only 100% electric model from Porsche, have already exceeded those of the iconic 911. The Stuttgart firm does not intend to stop there and plans to switch its sports 718 to electric from mid-decade, as well as launching an electric version of the Macan, the “small” SUV in the range, which is now scheduled for launch in 2024 (source: Automotive News).

In addition to these models, Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche, announced an electric SUV positioning itself above the already imposing Cayenne. “This will strengthen our position in the luxury vehicle segment. We particularly target higher margin segments and aim to exploit new sales opportunities in this way”he explains.

This new model, codenamed K1, will be produced in the Leipzig plant and will have a very sporty positioning for an SUV. It should be available with three rows of seats, a first for Porsche. We do not yet know on which platform it will be based, but it could take over the PPE which will be inaugurated by the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan electric. It should benefit from a 920 V architecture, against 800 V for the Taycan and 400 V for the majority of electric cars. Finally, it should take over the oil-cooled engines of the Mission R concept.

No other element of this future electric SUV is known at the moment, the start of production of which is expected by the middle of the decade.
