Freshly restyled, the Porsche Taycan electric sedan offers an even sportier version than the Turbo S, already with 952 hp in overboost mode. The new product is called Taycan Turbo GT; a name inaugurated by the Cayenne Coupé.

This aggressive version of the Taycan benefits from numerous improvements, which go well beyond its power. The latter is no less impressive, since the two electric motors together deliver up to 815 kW (1108 hp) during the launch control. The maximum torque is not to be outdone and is displayed at 1340 Nm. These improvements have been made possible in particular by the use of silicon carbide as a semiconductor for the rear axle inverter.

Already two records for the most radical Taycan

The Taycan Turbo GT set the lap record for a production electric car at California’s Laguna Seca circuit, with a time of 1:27.87. On the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, much more prone to lap record attempts, a prototype of the Taycan Turbo GT also obtained the title of fastest four-door car on the road. Nordschleife (north loop), all energies combined.

To achieve these records, Porsche engineers developed an optional Weissach pack, as on the 911 GT3 RS and GT2RS and the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It makes the car even more radical, among other things by removing its rear seat. While the Taycan Turbo GT (2,295 kg) already displays 75 kg less than a Turbo S on the scale, notably thanks to the extensive use of carbon and the removal of elements deemed non-essential, the Weissach pack removes another 70 kg to the electric sedan, which of course remains very heavy in absolute terms.

The other point widely reviewed compared to the more civilized versions of the Taycan is aerodynamics, a fortiori with the Weissach pack. The Turbo GT is equipped with a front spoiler with specific aerodynamic blades, or even a spoiler which gives way, on models equipped with the Weissach pack, to an imposing fixed wing for maximum aerodynamic downforce of 220 kg.

For the rest, Porsche has revised numerous elements of the chassis of its Taycan. For example, it is automatically equipped with the new Active Ride suspension with a specific configuration. Ceramic brakes (PCCB) are also delivered as standard.

Thus equipped, the Taycan Turbo GT is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds with the Weissach pack (2.3 seconds without) according to Porsche, two tenths of a second less than a Turbo S. The maximum speed, which is never the strong point of electric cars, is here announced at 305 km/h with the Weissach pack (290 km/h without). For comparison, a Turbo S “only” reaches 260 km/h at peak.

All these modifications necessarily have an impact on the autonomy, which goes from 634 km on a Taycan Turbo S to 555 km in the Turbo GT version. The price is announced from €246,538 on the French market, an increase of just over €30,000 compared to a Turbo S without options. Deliveries should begin in the spring.
