A few years ago, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S set the record for the fastest lap time for a production electric vehicle around Germany’s Nürburgring circuit, then it was finally beaten by a Tesla Model S Plaid the year last. Today, Porsche took over this record by making significant improvements to its Taycan.

Using a Porsche Taycan Turbo S with the performance kit, the all-electric sedan completed the 20.8 kilometer circuit located in the Eifel region of Germany in 7:33.350 minutes, about two seconds faster than the Model S Plaid.

Porsche’s famous performance kit includes 21-inch RS Spyder type wheels (found on all 911s and Macans) as well as Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires homologated for the road, but whose rubber mixture is ” similar to racing tires “. The Turbo S used on the Nurburgring was also equipped with an update of the Porsche 4D Chassis Control, designed to get the most out of this stickier tire.

Porsche has also equipped its car witha cage and a racing seat. However, the German automaker claimed that the total weight is identical to the production car. The rest of the feat is therefore simply to be attributed to the driver of the day, Lars Kern, who was able to break a new record validated by the German authorities of the TÜV Rheinland.

Previously, only the most powerful thermal cars were able to record such a time on the circuit, but the arrival of high-end Tesla and Porsche cars has turned drivers’ habits upside down. ” With the new performance kit I was able to push even harder, and the car was even more precise and nimble to start “, announces Lars Ken.

In addition to having recovered its title of fastest electric car on the circuit, Porsche also holds four other records. We find the fastest lap with an SUV (Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT), the fastest lap with a company car (Porsche Panamera Turbo) as well as the record for the fastest lap on the Nürburgring with the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (MR) (991.).
