Portal: a free DLC will make the title RTX compatible, soon NVIDIA RTX Remix to put ray-tracing in all games

It wasn’t the most important announcement of the conference NVIDIA from yesterday, but it was perhaps the one that resonated the most with players. It was announced that Portal would be entitled to a DLCs called Portal with RTXto be able to add ray tracing in the cult puzzle game of Valvereleased in 2007 all the same.

This graphic overhaul will be free for all Portal owners on Steamwhich will still have to have a graphics card powerful enough to run it.

In Portal with RTX, real-time ray tracing shines a new light on every scene, allowing light to bounce around and be affected by new physics-based textures as well as beautiful models with a large number of polygons. The sources of light generated by ray tracing diffuse shadows of astonishing realism. Indirect global illumination helps to lighten and darken rooms in a natural way. The ray-traced volumetric lighting feature optimizes rendering of fog and smoke, while every shadow gets a neat appearance. As you can see, every aspect of Portal’s graphics has been specially optimized, and special attention has been paid to detail.

Even more interesting, this Portal with RTX has been designed with NVIDIA RTX Remixa “free modding platform based on NVIDIA Omniverse” to create our own boosted versions at ray tracing of our favorite games. Yes, the community will also be able to graphically optimize titles for PC, and judging by what has been done on Portal and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowindthe result is likely to turn the heads of fans of retro games. NVIDIA RTX Remix will soon enter beta.

Graphic mods are the most popular update for the 1,800 games compatible with Nexus Mods, the internet’s largest mod repository. But it’s not easy. Mod tools are complex and don’t exist in many classic games. Meet NVIDIA RTX Remix, a free modding platform based on the NVIDIA Omniverse that allows modders to quickly create and share #RTXON mods for cult games, each featuring optimized materials, full ray tracing, and NVIDIA DLSS 3.

RTX Remix powers Portal with RTX, and to demonstrate its ease of use, we walk you through modding Bethesda Softworks’ The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in our in-depth NVIDIA RTX Remix article. Sign up here to receive notifications when the RTX Remix beta is available.
