Porto-Lyon (0-1): OL takes an option for the quarter-finals

Lyon won on the lawn of FC Porto (0-1) on Wednesday in the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League thanks to a goal from Lucas Paqueta. Les Gones take a good option before the return match at home in a week.

A valuable advantage. The Rhone club had a solid match – even if they could have scored more goals in this part –. Between the attempts of Léo Dubois, Moussa Dembélé and Karl Toko-Ekambi, Peter Bosz’s men must have said to themselves that they were going to leave without the slightest goal from this trip to Portugal.

We had to wait for the hour mark and an overflow from Toko Ekambi who served Dembélé who himself followed for who opened the scoring with a flat right foot (1-0). A goal first refused for an offside position before being validated with recourse to video arbitration.

The VAR which will be beneficial to the Lyonnais twice afterwards. First by canceling a penalty for Porto following a hand from Paqueta in the area after poor control from the playmaker (65th). Then in added time, when Mbemba shook their nets after added time, but the goal was canceled for an offside position (90 + 5).

On the strength of this success, the first against FC Porto in five European confrontations, Lyon will be able to approach the return match, on March 17, with an advantage which could prove to be invaluable.
