“There is no rule for the grammatically exact spelling of regional dialects,” says Walter right at the beginning of his book. Thank God not, because rules or formalism are not his thing anyway. That’s why the volume of poetry, which will be available in bookstores from Friday, is appropriately called “Krut und Rüebe” (cabbage and turnips). And even in it there is still the chapter “short and long”. “I didn’t want to commit myself thematically or linguistically,” explains the author, who collected the material for his book over the course of many years. “Childhood memories stand next to amusing experiences, slightly satirical considerations can be found next to one or the other time-critical lines”, Hächl describes his poems, which are written in the Bregenz dialect, occasionally also in High German, but always in rhyme.
