Portugal: all passengers of a tourist boat rescued after a shipwreck

The 36 passengers of a tourist boat, which sank on Monday afternoon off Lagoa, in the south of Portugal, have been rescued and are out of danger, announced the National Maritime Authority.

The passengers, who were in the water “with a life jacketWhen help arrived, they were recovered safe and sound, said Rodrigo dos Paços, captain of the port of Portimao, on public television RTP.

Ongoing investigation

The 34 tourists, including four children, and the two surviving crew membersdid not need to be taken to the hospital“, he added.

The boat sank after taking on water while sailing about 600 meters from the coast, south of the Alfanzina lighthouse, in the municipality of Lagoa. An investigation will be opened to determine the causes of the accident.
