Portugal wins late against Hungary

This is called getting the job done. In a sold-out Ferenc-Puskas stadium and won over to the cause of Hungary, Portugal healed their goal difference at the end of the second period to win widely in Budapest (0-3) on Tuesday, June 15.

The reigning European champion succeeded there in his entry into the running in Group F, before facing Germany and then France. The Lusitanians had control of the ball for much of the meeting, but took their time to build their success, against a well-established opponent, who ended up cracking in the last ten minutes.

Relive the match : Portugal wins against Hungary

La Seleçao started the game foot to the floor with a first strike from Diogo Jota deflected by Peter Gulacsi (5e). The Liverpool striker put it back at the end of the first period (40e), before Cristiano Ronaldo spoils a huge goal ball (43e).

With only one shot at the break, Hungary could not hope for better than a draw when they returned from the locker room. But the nation coached by Marco Rossi regained confidence in the second act, with two dangerous strikes from Adam Szalai (50e) and his attacking teammate Roland Sallai (56e).

Well taken by the defenders, Cristiano Ronaldo was rather discreet throughout the match, even if he almost caused a penalty for a deflection of the arm of Attila Fiola (76e). Szabolcs Schön thought to open the scoring for the Magyars on a strike low to the post, but the player was offside at the start of the action (80e). An alert that woke up the Portuguese.

Rafa Silva’s entry changed everything

More than 67,000 spectators were present at the Ferenc-Puskas stadium in Budapest, the only city to allow a maximum level.

Entered at 71e minute (0-0) in place of Bernardo Silva, his namesake Rafa Silva has totally changed the face of the match. The Benfica player is the first to open the scoring. His center finds Raphaël Guerreiro, whose strike from the outside of the foot deflected by Willi Orban deceives Gulacsi (84e).

It is again he who causes the fault of Orban at the origin of the penalty converted by Cristiano Ronaldo (87e). Captain doubles the end of the game on a new serve from Rafa Silva to score his 106e goal in the Portuguese jersey (90e + 2). A double that rewards the self-sacrifice of “CR7”, often isolated with the ball to the foot.

Fernando Santos’ players win their inaugural match at the Euro for the first time since 2008. What better way to prepare the two shocks to come, against Germany, on June 19 in Munich, and against France, on June 23 , still in Budapest.
